Northeast El Paso is positively marked by the presence of the world's largest land measure military complex. We are graced with Ft. Bliss, a fixture in El Paso since the mid 1800's, and Biggs Army Airfield. Stretching one hundred miles north into New Mexico is White Sands Missle Range. This vast high desert environment is a perfect place for joint training of friendly nation's military personnel. The El Paso Mil-Complex is host to joint training and even features permanent friendly nation unit assignments. The military complex with its support, medical, and recreational offerings to active duty and retired military, along with El Paso's low cost of housing, has been a magnet for military families. This may well be the proudest city area in the country, and you can love living here. Housing runs from traditional and newer homes perched on the eastern side of the Franklin Mountains with spectacular views, to traditional pre-WWII classics, large and small, to neat as a pin neighborhoods. Pricing here runs the complete range from under $60,000 homes to $500,000 and above. The northeast is home to Cohen Stadium, which in turn is home to our AA Diablos baseball team. The stadium is a a delight to visit with it's trio of floating sail shade structures and our generally magnificent weather for evening baseball games and post-game fireworks. Look for the Border Patrol Museum and Museum of Archeology on Transmountain Road. Also look for Mckelligon Canyon, home to Viva El Paso, a fantastic musical review of southwest traditions. Also, take a ride on Wyler Tramway to one of the Franklin Mountain peaks for a most glorious view across El Paso and into Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Explore the older parts of the northeast for some true local color including old fashion military supply businesses, night clubs, and some of El Paso's unique restaurants. One of the city's newest high schools is Chapin High, with dynamic contempoary design, courtyards, a fine arts theatre (which is host to the summer student fine arts program every June). Chapin also has a school-within-a-school, in that it is home to the city's Engineering Magnet School.
